
The Ministry of Labor expresses its honor and pride for the steadfastness of our people. The Palestinian people who have continuously held on to their land and their legitimate right of Resistance in the face of the brutal Zionist aggression.
The Israeli aggression lasted for five days and nights, starting from Tuesday May 9th, 2023 until Saturday night May 13th.
The Ministry of Labor affirms the hazardous implications and effects resulting from this aggression and its military vehicles on the functioning of the labor sector in general, and the workers in the local market both in full time, part time and day labor. This led to the paralysis of lives, the economy and the movement of more than 285,100 workers in all the labor sectors and economic activities. They were unable to move freely and arrive safely at their work places due to the dangerous security situation and the Israeli military attacks as the bombing and targeting affected all areas across the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli aggression also led to complete halt of fishing at sea due to the inability of the fishers to reach the sea. This led to depriving more than 4,900 fishers from their work and their only source of income.
The agriculture sector has also been seriously devastated as large areas of agricultural lands, vegetable farms, poultry farms were attacked by the Israeli occupation affecting nearly 12, 650 people in the agricultural sector.
In the manufacturing and mining industry, more than 21,300 workers were suffered and 13, 900 workers in the construction sector.
The aggression also inflicted negative repercussions on businesses, hotels and restaurants thereby affecting 56, 970 workers.
In the transportation, storage and communications sectors 19, 280 workers were affected as well as 28, 600 workers in the service provision sector. The total number of employees whose work was disrupted and damaged is nearly 157, 600 according to our initial estimations.
The Ministry of Labor condemns the killing and injuring of a number of farmers and municipality workers by the Israeli occupation. On this occasion, we express our condolences on the killing of martyrs: Mohammed Abu Taima, Alaa Baraka, Ayman Saidam and Ahmed Abu Juba.
The ministry reiterates its full support for the workers in all governorates in across the Gaza Strip. We will continue to provide services for all workers and to fulfil our mission in carrying out projects to elevate the Palestinians labor in the face of the Israeli aggression.
The ministry of labor calls upon all Arab and international organizations to take concrete steps to stop the Israeli occupations and prosecute it for its crimes. And to compensate the labor sector for all the direct and indirect losses it has incurred. We also urge all human rights organizations, syndicates to act quickly to aid and compensate thousands of inflicted workers and to provide programs and job opportunities for them and their families in all the damaged areas.
